City Leaders Set Goals for 2015-2016

The Council and senior city staff spent several days together this past week reviewing the state of the city (strategic plan & past goals & accomplishments) and set the “Top” and “High” priorities for the coming year.

Council and City staff recognize these will not be the only “priorities” for the year but reducing several score of “targets for action,” down to less than a dozen provides staff with a manageable number of Council approved initiatives to focus resources.

The 2015-2016 TARGETS FOR ACTION are separated into TOP PRIORITY and HIGH PRIORITY. They are (in no particular order):

TOP PRIORITIES

– Corporate Communications (Position & Plan)
– Downtown Parking and Garage
– Comprehensive Waterfront Plan (including boat ramp(s))
– Development Process Improvements Plan
– City Campus Conditions Assessment & Master Plan for future

HIGH PRIORITIES

– Economic Development Policy, Plan & Implementation
– City Service Level & Staffing (Direction & Funding)
– Airport Strategy
– Downtown Pattern Book
– 20th Street Development & Overlay District (in coordination with FAU)
– Beach & Park District Strategy

FIVE YEAR GOALS 

MAYOR SUSAN HAYNIE

A. College Town District completed

B. Construction of Downtown garage

C. Address Downtown Mobility

D. Waterfront destination on Palmetto Park Road and 5th Ave.

E. Complete “Town Center” Project — Mobility issues

F. Railroad station at Town Mall  (workers can travel without cars)

G. Executing Municipal Campus map.

SCOTT SINGER

A. More good jobs at corporate headquarters

B. Downtown Parking Garage

C. “Best in Class” interface with citizens — (Communications)

D. Innovative Development code — mixed use, MAINTAIN BOCA CHARACTER”

E. Visionary Staff and Leaders

F. Our citizens have become more engaged and knowledgeable — Need to hire personnel to inform and increase awareness re: our community

G. Increase use of internet.

MIKE MULLAUGH

A. Expand Tax Base — annex “Boca Grove” and ” Mediterranea”

a. Changes in developments — not permitted under current rules

5. Budget for growth of Employee labor pool — to serve increased population

6. Review Pattern Book and IDG

7. Consider CAP on # of units

8. New buildings need to incorporate charm, quality of life, be pedestrian friendly and enhance the city

9. 10,000 to 20,000 more people in 5 years — potential of 4000 new apartments

10. Policy implications of more density than we have approved

11. DIDN’T ADHERE TO CONCEPT OF KEEP BOCA BEAUTIFUL — FOLLOW UP INCONSISTENT WITH DEVELOPMENT OF BUILDINGS

General recognition and reasonable discussion of development issues.

Topic of initiating a “moratorium” for a short period to review all potential development and their implications.
