Imagine for a moment that six years ago Al Zucaro never started a website called BocaWatch.org. What do you think this city would look like today?

We know where it was headed, the Mark, the Hyatt Place, Tower 155, Palmetto Promenade, you get the picture – projects approved by an unchecked council.

If the collective team of writers on BocaWatch did not have a visible voice, countless development requests would have been given the green light from start to finish.

You want a variance – sure.

Greater density, greater height – why not?

Beaches – yawn, build away.

Parks -who needs them?

Golf courses – why waste a good construction site?

Midtown – the bigger the better!

Schools – more students, bring in the folding chairs.

Think about the decision makers on City Council, who would be sitting in those seats right now if you had never read an article in BocaWatch?

The fact is BocaWatch is not just Al Zucaro. It’s all of us, the residents, the voters, the taxpayers.

You write the articles, you do the videos; you post your concerns on social media. Together we have used the tool Al Zucaro has provided to give a voice to our neighborhoods and preserved public lands on the chopping block.

Make no mistake; the success of BocaWatch will be used as a template for candidates seeking office on August 28th. You must ask yourself, have they earned your vote?

A candidate can promise you anything but their voting record will tell you the future. What would they be promising you if no one was watching Council meetings these past six years?

That said, the current candidates are all good people, but we must choose only one Mayor and one Seat ‘A’ candidate.

So on August 28th my vote for Mayor is going to Al Zucaro. Al has already given us a voice, my vote for Seat A is going to hometown girl Kathy Cottrell. Kathy is a former ethics professor and FBI affiliate, areas of expertise we could use on our City Council.

  1. BocaWatch has performed an incredible public service for the residents of Boca Raton. Al Zucaro and friends were there for us when our City officials were not. The balance on our City Council is changing for the better. We can make a definitive change on August 28th. The stakes could not be higher.
