On Tuesday June 2, ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ฅ๐๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ opened at the ๐๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ. As a veteran of having worked on over 500 Broadway/off-Broadway shows, it always perplexes me how an out-of-town version of a Broadway show can fill in the shoes of it’s NYC predecessor in a run of less than one week. You won’t witness much of a drop-off, if any, from the Broadway cast. Though a lot of the names in the cast were not instantaneously recognizable like they would have been on Broadway, it’s all the more reason to take delight in these wonderful performances at Kravis Center.
Though short in stature as the role calls for, ๐๐๐ข๐๐ง๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ in the role of ๐๐ฒ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ณ, comes up tall in her singing and humor. ๐๐ฒ๐๐ง ๐๐ญ๐๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ข๐ ๐๐ซ in the titular ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ฅ๐๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ role, strolls the stage with swagger-like confidence and mischief and rattles off edgy one-liners that is sure to make Michael Keaton proud.
How the production creates all of the similar Broadway-like scenery, costumes, animatron-like puppets, choreography, etc. for a limited-time production is a credit to the spare-no-expense quality of taking you as close to Broadway as possible, as you might expect from a world class performing arts venue like Kravis Center. Everything about this venue is first class, and might I say it actually exceeds almost all Broadway theatres, especially those built in the earlier 1900’s, in seat comfort and legroom.
๐๐๐๐ญ๐ฅ๐๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ runs through Sunday June 7 at Kravis Center.
