Manatees finally eat lettuce offered to them to hold off starvation

The effort to feed manatees them began in November in an attempt to prevent another famine. But the unprecedented action failed to bear fruit until Thursday, when a couple of manatees began eating the lettuce, and finally more than 30 appeared and consumed all of it.
