The proposed long term lease agreement between the City of Boca Raton and the Hillstone Group for the Wildflower site is tantamount to a sale of the property. This will eliminate any possibility of the site being used for badly needed green space in the downtown for most of our lives.

The terms of the proposed lease of the Wildflower site to the Hillstone Group includes a 20-year lease with five-year extensions at the option for the Hillstone Group. In other words, the City is relinquishing control over the future of the Wildflower property site by agreeing to an open-ended lease with the Hillstone Group. This means that the City is saying “never” to a much needed green space on the Wildflower property waterfront site that all residents can enjoy.

The need for green space in the downtown has been well established in past BocaWatch articles. For example see: the article called Disappointment. The citizens of Boca Raton have been clear in their demand for more green space in the downtown. Numerous surveys performed by the City, local media and BocaWatch resulted in valid, statistically significant proof of this demand.

As the next step in preserving green space in the downtown, a petition drive is underway to place the future of green space in the hands of Boca Raton voters. Follow this link for some background: Petition Drive
