Watch Our 30 Seconds with Your 3PL Episode About The Importing & Exporting of API and Prescription Medications Handled by WDSrx Summary A global pharmaceutical company based in Germany required Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) to be shipped to the United States for manufacturing. The finished goods were to be shipped back to Italy for distribution. Challenge The pharmaceutical company could not ship product into the United States because they did not have proper U.S. customs certification. Also, the raw materials required shipment within a refrigerated temperature range of 2-8 degrees Celsius. The finished goods also were marked for refrigerated shipment on return to Italy. Solution WDSrx supported this client by acting as the Importer of Record for the shipment into the United States. This allowed the API to be transported from Italy while maintaining regulatory compliance. The WDSrx transportation management team arranged door-to-door specialized refrigerated air cargo travel. Temperature and humidity were constantly monitored throughout the journey. Several documents were correctly completed in advance for FDA approval and expedited customs clearance by U.S. and Italian authorities. A commercial invoice and packing list for import and export, USDA statement, buyer’s EIN for import, and product Certificates of Analysis wer. Additional details included pallet quantity and dimensions, number of master cartons and total pallet weight, FEI and DUNS numbers, HTS codes for each product, NDC and ANDA numbers. Similar documentation was necessary for the export shipment and return to Italy. “International air transport involves several parties that work together to manage the successful delivery of vital medications for patient treatment,” states WDSrx President Adam Runsdorf. “The WDSrx team helped assure import of raw materials and export of finished goods were completed on time and within compliance.” Conclusion The client imports and exports product regularly with a WDSrx commitment to increasing efficiency for every shipment. Warehousing and fulfillment are important 3PL services. Watch Our 30 Seconds with Your 3PL Episode About FBA Orders at WDSrx Summary A prominent national manufacturer of dietary supplements with a growing e-commerce business received large orders from Amazon with little advance notice. WDSrx utilized their expertise to allocate labor and equipment to complete the initial FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) requirements and also developed a system to immediately support future FBA projects. Challenges Amazon FBA orders differ from conventional e-commerce orders. Most ecommerce fulfillment is B2C (business to consumer). The order is received and the product is picked, packed and shipped directly to the end consumer. FBA orders are large volume orders placed by Amazon. These orders are shipped to Amazon distribution centers. Amazon then fulfills the order to the party who made the original purchase. Compared with B2C shipments, additional documentation and special labeling are required by Amazon for their FBA orders. Also, Amazon FBA orders may require special packaging of products that differ from original manufacturer packaging. For example, individual bottles of supplements may have to be bundled together and then sealed for shipment. In other cases, products are bubble-wrapped and outer labels added with additional product details and information. The client approached WDSrx to complete their Amazon FBA orders including customization and labeling in a short timeframe because advance notice for these orders was not provided and delivery to Amazon was required within three business days. Solutions The WDSrx operations team set up packaging stations resembling assembly lines in a central location of the warehouse containing client inventory. Designated warehouse technicians moved large pallets of inventory from warehouse shelves to the staging area on the floor. Then, product was allocated to different work teams. Each team was responsible for preparing orders according to different instructions. One team bundled products together and secured them in shrink-wrap. Another team used bubble-wrap around multiple items to put together as a set. A third team applied additional labeling to the outside of wrapped bottles. Account coordinators managed the entire process and communicated with the client to confirm accurate label printing and application on cases and pallets prior to […] The post Case Study: Building A Team For FBA (Fulfilled By Amazon) Orders appeared first on WDSrx - Woodfield Distribution - Pharmaceutical Logistics.

Watch Our 30 Seconds with Your 3PL Episode About a Kitting Project at WDSrx Summary The manufacturer of the first commercially available Horizontal Centrifuge for dental and medical applications looked to WDSrx to perform logistics services for their expanding business. The entire inventory was transferred to WDSrx from the client’s original warehouse located in their existing office space. Orders were expected to be processed throughout the move without service disruption. Utilizing deep expertise in medical device assembly and fulfillment, WDSrx organized a kit-to-stock program that streamlined their operations, enabled continuation of client business and positioned the client for future growth. Challenges The initial challenge was transferring inventory of delicate medical equipment and components to the WDSrx warehouse. Additional quantities of components were being received from several different vendors directly to the WDSrx warehouse. Putting together all items for each kit in the correct environment is necessary to avoid mix-ups or contamination. Each kit contains user manuals, glass vials, tri-fold pamphlets, a centrifuge machine, needles, blood collecting tubes, holders and informational packets. During the packaging process, both small and large items are placed into the same box. The different sizes of the many components presents a challenge in fitting everything securely in the box prior to sealing. Once assembled, these heavy boxes must be handled with extra care to prevent any potential damage to the finished kit. Due to high demand of the newly introduced product, a large quantity of kits was required to be assembled in order to meet current demand and provide sufficient inventory to fulfill future kit orders. Solutions When the inventory arrived at the WDSrx loading dock from the former warehouse, a team of warehouse technicians unloaded the truck and arranged all materials at a staging area for inspection. Advance planning alerted the WDSrx operations team to provide sufficient pallet positions and bin locations for the various products. After inspection and with client approval, the products were released and placed in active inventory. Account Coordinators Arcot Jayalakshmi and Shannon Williamson oversaw all medical device assembly and kitting procedures. Initial kits were assembled for the client to […] The post Case Study: Just Kitting – The Serious Business of Medical Device Assembly appeared first on WDSrx - Woodfield Distribution - Pharmaceutical Logistics.

May 24, 2021 – Sugar Land, TX – WDSrx, a pharmaceutical logistics company based in Boca Raton, Florida was approved as a customs bonded warehouse facility at their location in Sugar Land, Texas. Established in 2010, WDSrx operates nine GMP warehouse facility locations in Florida, New Jersey, Texas, Ohio and Nevada, with 650,000 square feet of capacity for prescription and over-the-counter medications, medical devices, supplements and raw materials. A customs bonded warehouse is a segregated secure area within a facility in which dutiable goods may be stored, manipulated, or undergo manufacturing without payment or duty for up to five years. A bonded warehouse is within United States Customs territory, therefore, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol are kept aware of all incoming goods into the warehouse. WDSrx specifically operates a Class 2 Bonded Warehouse at the Sugar Land, Texas facility which is exclusively used for the importation of goods using near-shoring techniques to receive and store merchandise. The WDSrx Sugar Land, TX location serves the Port of Houston and George Bush International Airport for easy transfer of goods entering from Latin America and other international destinations by air, sea and road. Additional benefits from utilizing customs bonded warehouse areas include reduction of certain duties, relief from inverted tariffs, duty exemption on re-exports, duty elimination on waste, weekly entry savings, improved compliance and indefinite storage capabilities. For example, a pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturer from Mexico may import products into the bonded area for a cost-effective transition into the U.S. market. Prior to launch date or awaiting FDA approval, inventory can be stored in the bonded area for distribution by the experienced WDSrx team immediately after authorization is received. Duties and taxes are owed only when product leaves the bonded area for domestic distribution. This process minimizes cost for manufacturers that prefer their product to be available as soon as distribution approval is granted. The Sugar Land, TX location is the first bonded warehouse facility within the WDSrx network. With this development, WDSrx adds to the current diverse services it offers including packaging and labeling, reverse logistics, financial reporting and transportation management.
