With my remaining time with BocaWatch now closing out, I thought it would be interesting to provide a look back over my time as editor in chief and a look forward regarding my hopes for BocaWatch.

About two months ago I agreed to take over Al Zucaro’s editor in chief responsibilities at BocaWatch while he campaigned for Mayor of Boca Raton. What I found was a smoothly running platform that was designed and built by Al and a previous editor in chief: Andrea Levine O’Rourke. I interpreted my interim role as keep the engine running with quality content and don’t screw things up.

The residents of Boca Raton make BocaWatch happen.  The editorial and production staffs are amazing and deliver quality results on schedule. The authors of the articles, videos and cartoons come from all areas of the city and have a sincere desire to make the city a better place. I would really like to list the names of the residents, who directly and indirectly made contributions, but the numbers are large and I’m paranoid about forgetting contributors. Leaving anyone off the list would devastate me and I’m not taking that risk. So I’m sending out a big thank you to…you know who you are.

Here are some BocaWatch stats from the last two months:

  • 37 articles
  • 17 videos
  • 9 cartoons

But numbers don’t tell the whole story. What we really accomplished was to give the residents of Boca Raton a platform to express their opinions. The internet has tilted the balance of power toward the people. For example, look how the various shopping web sites have empowered consumers by allowing consumers to rate and express their opinions on products. Our residents have used the BocaWatch platform to express their opinions on the following local topics over the last two months.

My hope for the future of BocaWatch is that the City adopts the functionality. The need for a BocaWatch function will not go away, but will grow as residents who grew up with internet technology demand more effective and convenient methods of communicating. I hope that the City of Boca Raton realizes the advantages of the BocaWatch functionality and will absorb and operate the platform as a means for more effectively communicating with the residents. City communications must become more resident friendly.

  1. To all Boca Watch followers: Tomorrow please vote for Patti. Along with Al and Andrea this will give the city council the 3 to 2
majority needed to take control.I do not have anything against Scott, he tries to run a balanced vote but falls to many times to the
powers to be. Al, Andrea and Patti will give the council the “power back to the people.
Note the Republican flier distributed thru out the city was a big lie.
